The mountain areas in Abruzzo are a charming destination for all. You can see almost every rocky mountain peak in the region at a glance as they soar skywards. Visitors of all ages can find various opportunities to actively engage their free time. Not only ski enthusiasts, from alpine to cross country skiing, but nature lovers and hikers can also benefit from the beauty and the majesty of the Abruzzo Peaks as well. That’s why the region is considered the “Greenest Region in Europe”, with its 3 national parks, 1 regional park and more than 30 natural reserves. It undoubtedly deserves its role as leader in the Nature Tourism compartment.
SKIING IN ABRUZZO
The biggest ski resorts in the Apennines, hundreds of kilometres of ski runs, excellent standards of snow, well-designed state-of-the-art facilities, a complete, efficient network of accessory structures and services. Abruzzo has no limits if you are a snow aficionado. Here there are downhill skiing resorts in Abruzzo: San Giacomo - Monte Piselli Scanno Prati di Tivo Roccaraso Prato Selva Rivisondoli C. Imperatore - Monte Cristo Pescocostanzo Campo Felice Pizzoferrato e Gamberale Ovindoli – La Magnola Passolanciano – La Majelletta Marsia Campo Di Giove Campo Rotondo Pacentro – Passo San Leonardo Pescasseroli There are also some ski districts dedicated to cross-country activities: Il Ceppo – Santo Stefano di Sessanio – castel del Monte – Piano di Pezza – Opi – Bosco di Sant’Antonio.
MOUNTAIN IN THE SUMMER TIME
Mountain Abruzzo offers a great choice for summer tourists. Although for winter we tend to refer to locations where skiing facilities are provided for snow sports, from spring to the onset of autumn’s warm colours, almost all areas of the mountains of Abruzzo can be enjoyed. Much of the region’s most beautiful mountain areas are now under the protection of Parks and Reserves. Thanks to its Parks, Abruzzo’s nature has been safeguarded and can be enjoyed and visited by all. The commitment to environmental conservation, together with the great area of the territory that is effectively protected, has earned Abruzzo the deserved title of “greenest region in Europe”.
